Beautifully written and illustrated. Short, sweet yet still conveys enough about the saint for young children. Love that it's a board book, sturdy.

http://svspress.com. This is the third book they have worked together on and with each book, they take your little reader on a journey to learn about a special Saint.
This book focuses on Saint Casilda’s curiosity about Christians in a prison and why they love and pray to Jesus. Even though she is scared of the prison guards, she is brave and learns a valuable lesson about praying when Jesus helps her and her little friends be able to enter the prison. Little ones will learn the power of prayer and how it can make you feel when you have a relationship with your faith. Melinda Johnson has a way of condensing hard topics and making them easy for your children to understand. Kristina Tartara always brings the book alive with her bright illustrations. I love how every book Kristina has illustrated, has an added, extra animal friend that your children can look for on each page!

With each new book, I think about how great these would be in any home library, at Sunday school or in your church bag! Need a gift for a baptism or a godchild? These would be perfect!

When we received this beautiful book, my 5-year old was so excited to read it. She carried it around and sat right next to me when it was time, and her first words after I read the book to her were, "Again, again!" We have read it multiple times (at least once a day) since it arrived, and she loves looking at the beautiful illustrations and hearing the words of the story. I enjoy it as well, particularly as I began to learn more about St. Casilda. I'm grateful that the author and illustrator are working to introduce some lesser-known saints to families. This book, and others by this dynamic duo, makes a great gift for younger readers.

Saint Casilda Brings the Bread is the latest offering in a series of board books by Melinda Johnson and Kristina Tartara. The simple story relates how Casilda wondered why imprisoned Christians persisted in believing in Jesus. She decides to sneak them bread, but gets stopped by soldiers. Through a miracle, the bread is changed into roses, and she's able to continue through to learn about Christ.
The story is charming and well-suited for older toddlers and preschoolers, and the illustrations are full of color and emotion! We appreciated getting to learn about a saint we hadn't heard of before (could a saint of the Americas be next?) and look forward to the next book!

“St Casilda Brings the Bread” tells the story of the conversion of St Casilda and her efforts to help Christians suffering in prison. My son loves Kristina’s illustrations and was so excited when the bread hidden in St Casilda’s skirts turned to red roses! Both my 2 and 4 year olds asked for this to be read again after we finished and they both enjoyed looking at the illustrations on their own.

This is an excellent addition to any home library, liturgy bag, or church school library. I’ll be purchasing copies for my godsons and our church liturgy bags, I received this one in exchange for an honest review.

Melinda Johnson and Kristina Tartara have teamed up for yet another terrific children's book! The story of Saint Casilda is written in a way that makes the reader want to learn more about her life. The illustrations are colorful and expressive. An excellent board book for young children.
